Originally from Bangor, Northern Ireland, Debs Higginson has been painting in oils since her early teens. She was fortunate to recieve instruction from a well-known local artist, June Moffatt, in those early years.

After having a family she continued to paint in her spare time and continued to receive commissions by 'word of mouth'.

She admires artisits like Edward Hopper and Jack Vettriano and the voyeuristic influences which these artists have expressed so well is sometimes glimpsed within her own work.

Her style ranges from 'thinned' oils to thick impasto effects.

The dominant theme within her work is portraiture, but architecture and landscape are also embraced.

She prefers to work from photos so she can 'revisit' the painting as many times as is necessary to perfect details. This technique also allows her to paint without the physical presence of the 'sitter', or scene which she is painting.

She is currently resident in Swansea, South Wales.
