Artist Bio

Debora Chimi is an artist who creates pieces using multi-media. She combines oil, watercolor, pastel, found objects, as well as many other mediums to create one of a kind paintings and 3d paintings. She won 3rd place in the Quincy Art Association judged competition for her piece titled “America” after Franklin’s photo of 9.11. This piece was oil on demin jeans depicting 3 firefighters raising a flag, using a technique of creating a haze seeming to raise the flag out of the rubble.

Debora did a series of paintings from 1990 on painted on denim, named “Threads of America” showing the popularity or demin jeans in America. Most of these paintings depicted hardship in everyday normal people’s life, break-ups, death & heartache.

Born in Quincy Massachusetts, Debora was raised on the south shore .She attended Mass College of Art from 1971- 1973 majoring in ceramics; she left through 1974 to travel through Mexico & Central America. Working with Mayan stone carvers in Palanquin, Mexico & throwing pots in Oaxaca, Mexico.

In 1978 prior to wide spread computer use, she started a photo retouching business, airbrushind & penciling out defects in photographs.

In 1994 she began teaching arts & crafts for an after school program in Milton, Massachusetts , following that she moved on and began working in an Alzheimer’s Ward in Standish Village Assisted Living from 1996-1997. She specialized in using the Arts as fulfillment and relaxation & art as therapy.

In 1997 she attended Mass College of Art again for a continuing education program in Art Therapy. From then on she used art with the elderly in there homes and in a facility. She used real life subjects and shapes to create her own work and to teach the patient technique and relaxation.

In the Late 1990’s Debora started working with oil & watercolor to create vibrant work that expresses realistic and expressionistic styles. She mixes earth tones with brilliant primary colors to create the colors and visuals seen in nature & everyday Life.

Since 2000 Debora has been working on larger scale paintings , using oil and mirrors to catch light and experimenting with reverse glass painting. Greatly influenced by the ocean since her childhood she has created a seascape through a window mixing bright colors with large bold shapes to create a whimsical and relaxing scene.

Debora is currently merging her paintings with paintshop pro on the computer. She has been using this program to mesh multiple paintings together and then physically painting the result. You can find many of Debora paintings in home settings and for sale on artwanted.com
