My ideas and inspirations come from many sources but some of the main themes and wellsprings that have emerged so far include spiritual and religious abstractions, Nature, Literature, Music, the Magic of Color & Imagination, and Artists of the past. For me, the alchemical nature of Art reflects the mystery and magic of Creation and continually leads me down diverse roads. I look to honor the past, create and live in the now, and look to the future. It is a means for not only self-discovery but also a way of learning about the world. Art is what you make it to be; borrowing the words of Henry Miller, "Art can teach us nothing, except the significance of life." I am a self-taught artist and began working in oil paints at the age of 40 and have since explored various materials and methods such as Ink, Graphite, Pastels, Charcoal, Acrylic, Oil Sticks and Egg Tempera. At times I work from sketched drawings and photographic images while others are works of spontaneous improvisations done in a receptive state; they guide me as much as I guide them. I am also learning the many techniques of Printmaking using stone, metal, and wood in conjunction with the Omaha Printmakers Guild.
