It is one of those amazingly sunny and incredibly cold (-7F) days you find only in January in VT. The sun shines on the snow so brightly that you need sunglasses, and at night it is so bright. As the moon nears full, you can walk in the woods at night without a flashlight! Here's more information on my two January shows. The first one is the 4th Annual Paine Mountain Arts Council Northfield Area Art Show, at the Historical Society in Northfield VT, Jan. 23, 24th & 25th. The opening reception is Friday night, Jan. 23rd from 7-9 PM. I am one of the co-coordinators for the show, and I am lucky to work with such a wonderful, caring and talented group of people. The show will have work from artists in all types of media - fiber, stone, and the usual painting & photography. All of the artists are from the Northfield, Roxbury, and Brookfield area of VT. The number and variety of artists for such a small area is astounding. We will have about 41 different artists exhibiting. Central VT is truly becoming an artist's haven. I am exhibiting "Blue Guitar", which is on my website, plus some other more traditional pieces.
The second show I am extremely excited and proud to be in. I will have an exhibit with another Northfield artist, Kathy Ravenhorst Adams (who will also be in the PMAC show). It will be just the two of us, in the 3rd floor gallery at Studio Place Arts, 201 North Main St., Barre VT. The show runs from Jan 20th to Feb 28, 2009. The opening reception is Jan. 23, 2009, from 5:30-7PM. The 23rd is going to be quite a day!! Logistically, there is about 15 miles between the 2 openings, so it will be an interesting evening as Kathy and I go back & forth to the 2 events! It is quite an honor to get a show at SPA. The 3rd floor gallery shows are juried, and it is highly competitive, since SPA is the area's premier art venue. You can check out their website at www.studioplacearts.com

Hi Everyone and Happy Holidays! I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is over. It’s been cold in Vermont this week with several inches of snow on the ground in my area, so the weather is definitely telling us that winter is just about here. I thought I would take a moment and update you on the holiday shows where my work can be seen and two very special auctions that I am participating in.
The first one opened last weekend at Studio Place Arts, 201 North Main Street in Barre VT. It is the annual SPA Members Show, and it is a great place to go Christmas shopping for one of a kind gifts. You can get a view on their website at http://www.studioplacearts.com/current.html All 3 floors are full of arts and local crafts for sale.
The second show is The Chandler Gallery Holiday Bazaar in Randolph VT at the beautiful old restored Chandler Theater and Gallery. The show runs from Nov. 22nd to Dec. 28th. All of the best of Vermont’s arts, crafts and even some food products will be at this one.
The Art Resource Association will have its holiday group member’s show from December 1st through the 30th in the City Center Plaza, Montpelier VT. The ARA is a great organization that organizes shows for local artists. I am their treasurer, and you can check a gallery sampling of some of the members’ work at www.ara-web.org There will be an opening reception for the show Friday night, December 5th, from 4 PM to 8 PM, during the Montpelier Art Walk. The theme for this art walk is “Holiday Cookies’, and all of the participating venues will have tasty cookies for you to snack on. For more information on the Art walk, please go to: http://www.lazypear.com/art_gallery/art_walk/montpelier_art_walk.html
Now for the auctions – I have donated a small painting to the Vermont Arts Council’s “”Doing our pART for the Vermont Foodbank” online auction. It is an online auction of art, crafts, tickets, workshops and much more, with 100% of the proceeds going to feeding hungry Vermonters through the Vermont Foodbank. Please go to the website and check out the great items, including several private concerts in your home by some of Vermont’s finest musicians! Here’s the link: https://www.cmarket.com/auction/item/Browse.action?auctionId=73802252
The other auction is the Arts Alive Auction, Saturday night, Dec. 6th at Main Street Landing, 1 Main Street, Burlington VT. The auction begins about 6:30 PM, with hors d’ouevres, music and a cash bar beginning at 5 PM, so you can preview the art that is for sale. 70% of the sale goes to the artist, and 30% to Arts Alive for the cultural events that they sponsor. My large abstract city oil painting, “Sleepytown”, will be in the auction. This is the second time I have participated in this event, and it is a lot of fun and brings a feeling of the sophisticated New York City art scene to Burlington. The dress is semi-formal, “cocktail”, and it is in a beautiful location, right on the waterfront of Lake Champlain.
All of these events are worth getting out to, especially since Burlington, Montpelier, Barre and Randolph will be all decked out for the holidays. The snow adds to the atmosphere, making the Christmas lights seen a little brighter. Montpelier always looks like it is straight out of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
Here’s to a wonderful holiday season for you and your loved ones and to peace and prosperity in the New Year.
Love and light, Robin
