The Early Years...

Greg Joens grew up in the small Midwestern town of Hudson, Iowa. As a young artist, he spent much of his time drawing in sketch pads and enjoying art classes at Hudson Community Schools. As a Senior in HS, Greg and his family moved from Iowa to Greenville, SC in 1979. He was accepted into the Greenville County Fine Arts Center. He entered first art competition and won first place and other awards for his art submissions. Greg was awarded outstanding fine art student at the Fine Arts Center and received an art scholarship for college

In 1980-82 Greg attended the Hawkeye Institute of Technology (HIT) in Waterloo, Iowa and earned his degree in commercial art. He was nominated for outstanding student at HIT in 1982.

Work...

Greg's first art job was one he created for himself. He spent time many months sketching homes from the street curb and was hired by many homeowners in the McDaniel Avenue area of Greenville, South Carolina to draw their homes.

In 1984, Greg was hired as a sign artist at Custom Signs in Greenville. He learned soon learned every aspect of the job of a sign artist which included woodworking, lettering, sign installation, gold leaf work, and the sandblasting of redwood and cedar carved signs.

In 1990, Greg's honed skills as a pen and ink artist were needed again when he was as a technical illustrator for Fluor Daniel. Fluor Daniel, a construction and engineering firm in Greenville, provided Greg with the opportunity to develop his illustration skills using a computer in FD's Training division. He created technical illustrations for instruction manuals.

From 1999 to the present, Greg has worked as a full time freelance artist with large and small companies providing quality digital technical illustrations using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop in addition to the fine art pencil and pen and ink drawings he has provided for nearly 30 years.
