Julene has won awards in local, regional and national competitions. The most important award was a Third Place in the Still Life/Floral Category of the 2004 Pastel Journal Magazine competition with over 3,000 entries. Another achievement that has meant a lot to her was winning an honorable mention in the Still Life/Floral category in The Artist's Magazine Art Competition in 2003 with over 13,000 entries.

Julene received signature status from the Pastel Society of America, of New York, New York in 2004. It's difficult to achieve, only 700 artists since the society's founding in 1972 have achieved signature status that's acquired by submitting slides for a panel of judges to review. She's also a signature member of the Ozark Pastel Society, with memberships also in the Degas Pastel Society of New Orleans, and the Artists of Northwest Arkansas.
