Karen Vath is a self taught artist working in oil and acrylic on canvas.Although she had enjoyed painting as a hobby it wasn’t until she moved to Vermont that her creativity got the best of her and she now paints on a regular basis. Having been in the restaurant business in NYC she gained a love of jazz from visiting the various jazz clubs in Greenwich Village. Many of her earlier expressional abstracts reflect the music scene and memories of the New York City nightlife. She states, “My work is more expressionism than anything else. I like the creativity of experimentation and the freedom of expression that I feel when I paint and as the paint goes on the canvas it begins to come together." On occasion she also enjoys painting florals and landscapes, in more of a contemporary/ abstract style and some which at times lend to a softer side, bordering on impressionism.
