Send me an email if you'd like to have a friendly conversation. I'll answer any questions you might have about my work. [email protected]

Ever since I was maybe 7 or 8 years old I fell in love with visual art. My older brother, through my high school years, was my favorite artist. I idolized artists like Boris Vallejo and Michael Whelan as he did. I don't think I ever considered even one of his doodles crap. I think he was just too modest and most of those 'scribbles' ended up in the trash.

I've never really attended any art shows but would really love to one day. I did participate in a few during my high school years, though. Unfortunately, being 16 years old I was already old enough to work and help my parents. I couldn't attend the shows but would later receive lots of compliments and congratulations for 1st and 2nd places at school. Unfortunately the sculpture that won first place was a sculpture of...the devil...(I was trying to stand out from the crowd, I was young). My mother took it and smashed it with a hammer the day I took it home. I couldn't blame her. It scared the heck out of me, too.

After high school one would assume that I would attend college and major in something art related, but trying to do the unexpected I hung out with the wrong crowd. I would spend most of my time binge drinking and going to clubs. That lasted a good three years until I met the woman who I call wife now. Boy did she set me straight...and I thank her everyday for it. I can't help but wonder what I would be doing right now if not typing this message.

I perceive those events in my life as fate. I could wish that things would have been different and that I would not have wasted those years after graduation, but then I wouldn't be here today to bore you with the story of it and I probably wouldn't have met my angel. I would be lost without her.

Now, I continue to work. Every now and then I get the craving for a good render and I'll spend all night trying to achieve it. I turn on my computer and open up both Photoshop and Terragen. I start with Terragen and make a basic render and eventually improve on it. While the image renders I start a new file in Photoshop and start brushing away eventually improving on it as well. Space art is what I love, but it's not all I do. I would one day like to be as talented as many of the other space artists I converse with and know that there are other tremendously talented individuals out there who are feeling the same way. The truth is that one will never get there unless they get started. I hope to one day be recognized as Juan E. Davila - the man who has inspired many. But until then I'll settle for Juan Davila the guy who makes space art and landscapes for a hobby.

Thanks for your time. I'd like to close by saying that I pity you if you actually read through all of this, because now I have wasted some of your precious time (I think we can all use more of it...free time, at least) and I apologize for having put you through it. Until next time, whenever that may be.

Your friend and fellow artist, Juan E. Davila
