Next installment of the Anthony Portrait:

I just need to work the rest of the shirt, the arm closest to us, the moustache and hair, the watch, and the tuning pegs. Phew.

I have been ill and have not had a chance to work on this portrait until now. Here is the latest installment.

I am starting to feel better and should be back to normal soon. I hope to work on this portrait more today.

Today was a vacation day and I spent it working on a website for a client and working on the portrait of my Sweetie. Here is the latest work in progress:

I have blocked out the colours for the guitar. I still need to finish the hand closest to us. The guitar will be a while before being completed. I may start blocking in the shirt as well in the next day or two.

Happy Easter!

Hello!

Today is Easter Sunday. I will be cooking up a ham for dinner.

I have worked a little more on the portrait of Anthony. The image is too large to scan in one pass on my scanner so I have been photographing it with my digital camera. That is why the colours are not consistent from image to image. This one looks a bit washed out. In reality the colours are a bit bolder in the actual work.

I am now listening to Thanksgiving by Janet Evanovich on CD. I really enjoy Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Mystery Series. However this book is in the Romance Genre. I am not enjoying it as much as I enjoy Evanovich's mystery stories. I don't particularly enjoy romances as a genre, so perhaps that is why I am not enthralled with this book. I find the characters shallow and unrealistic. It could also be C.J. Critt's reading of the story that I am not enjoying. Critt is perfect for reading the Stephanie Plum stories. Her accents and voices are wonderful in that genre. However, here, I find it contrived and choppy. Unfortunately I don't have anything else in the house to listen to while I draw. I will finish the book, but I think from now on I will stick to Evanovich's Plum series.

I have to go grab my Joy of Cooking book and figure out how to cook this ham.

Happy Easter to All of You from the Tirolese Family.

Here it is Sunday and I have only worked on the portrait a few times this week. I threw out my back again and have been in too much pain to sit still for long. Nonetheless, here is the next installment of the portait. I am having a lot of difficulty with the nose. It is in shadow and I keep making it look too long.

In our portrait art group we are taking photos of our eyes. Here are two pics of my eyes.

As you can see, I am smiling in the first and not in the second.

Our friend, Pauline (there is a portrait of her on this site), had her 40th birthday and her husband threw her a surprise party. Here is a photo of me, my husband, and my son all doing a silly pose at her house.

Here is Pauline:

That is all there is.

Here is the next installment of the portrait I am doing of Anthony. I managed to get the hat more or less completed. This is in Prismacolor coloured pencils on Stonehenge paper.

Blogging is something I do not do well or often, mostly because I get busy and don't remember to keep it up.

The lastest piece is coming along slowly. I had to take a couple days off from working on it because life got in the way. I have finished the right hand and arm, more or less, and it looks pretty good. I have started on the head and face. So far I have only laid down a light wash of colour on the head and face.

If I can get myself organized enough, perhaps I can think to take some digital snaps of the work in progress. The image is too large to scan properly without stitching it together (my scanner can only handle 8½" x 14" size) so I am saving the scanning for the finished piece where I can take the time to properly stitch the image together at the end. However, If I remember (and my digital cam is charged), I will take a few photos of the WIPS and post them here.

I am happy to say that the new portrait of Anthony is coming along well. Stonehenge paper really makes a difference with coloured pencils.

Only the background has been done so far. I often start with the background so that I can better judge the intensity of colours in the image. It usually takes me about 10-12 hours to do a "simple" background.

I have finally finished the commissioned House Portrait for my friend Laura W. She is giving this to her granmother for her grandmother's 99th birthday. Laura is thrilled with the portrait (YAY) and I hope her grandmother also likes it.

I am currently working on a coloured pencil portrait of my husband playing the guitar. It is kind of a follow-up to the 1984 portrait I did fo him. I have to restart it. I was using the wrong kind of paper and the colours were not working well. I am going back to my Stonehenge paper.

I am listening to a book on CD while I work on my art. Currently I am listening to: Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading by Maureen Corrigan (Read by the author) and it is really quite good! I would recommend it.

Well, must run. Have art to create, food to cook, and a boy to take to the library.
