Terrell Smith-Dorfeo is a 38 year old mom of two darling children, and wife of her loving (and extremely supportive) husband, Tony. She resides in Pittsburgh, (otherwise known as the "Steel City") and is a professional freelance artist. She is considered an up and coming illustrator/animator of fantasy images. What does that mean, exactly? Her art is caught between two worlds: Terrell's characters are considered a bit too complicated for animating most of the time (not impossible, mind you--they are very unique) and her art tends to have a lot of detail! She studied at "The Art Institute Of Pittsburgh" for "Media Arts and Animation" for several years in the recent past and has learned a lot of interesting and wonderful techniques from some fantastic animators. Terrell is mostly self-taught with recent classes for polish and has won awards throughout her career and life as an artist. She has been creating most of her days as she comes from an artistic family, but has been taking it very seriously for about 12 years---mostly for her own entertainment! She imagines that you are probably wondering if others of her family members draw cartoony as well.....no, just her! Terrell is the only one who does this stuff; her inspiration comes from traditional cartoons and comics. Her art truly reflects this; she listens to the beat of her own drummer.

Terrell enjoys working by traditional means; ink work and mixed media being her favorite mediums. Because of her animation training, she creates many drawings a day, often with a fantasy/toony theme. Terrell is known for her curvy gal drawings as well as art for kids; quite often she gets asked about custom made tattoo art from fans and collectors of her unusual craft.

Several of Terrell's artworks are published in the books "500 Fairy Motifs" by Myera Pettit of Fairesworld & "Enchanted Artists: Visions of Atlantis" by Ellen Million Graphics (sold out), "Faeries Through the Seasons" (2006) and the in the book "Drawing the Magick of Dragons". Her work has also appeared in several e-zines, magazines and newspapers during the past few years with more to come in the future!

Linda Barnicott (Pittsburgh/Kennywood artist) has also been a great help and supporter of my work and of the business that I am slowly starting to understand. She used to be my neighbor! *grin*

I don't really use models very often; however I will use a mirror to get ideas! I make a lot of lucky guesses, sort of "working blindly" when I design my characters. I usually draw straight with ink and I don't use shapes very often when I do a drawing (animation is another story!). In other words, I don't follow basic rules, I just go with the flow of the lines; that works best for me.

I wish in a way that I stuck with toons, but animation isn't so traditional anymore (from what I experienced). I feel blessed to have learned under some of the best.I may continue the study later in life as I have missed out on some neat projects (I have a little one, don't-chew-know....makes the time needed to do all those drawings a little tough). I am currently working out of my home studio. Published in CP's (Pittsburgh City Paper Magazine) Art Seen Steel City Media, ArtWanted's Calendars 2005-2007(published by ART SLAM), The Hotspot, Phoenix Magazine of the Arts,Jazma Online E-zine,Seatails E-zine, and Enchanted Visions E-zine (March and June 2005), tattoo art flash,Waves Girls Basketball Logo,Visions Of Atlantis online show and "Enchanted Artists: Visions Of Atlantis" book (2005), "500 Fairy Motifs" book (2005), mermaid art for a few boats, Ellen Million Graphics, and the new "Faeries Through the Seasons book (2006)!

You will see a lot of ideas and characters "floating" without a background very often here. I am used to just making quick drawings of a character because drawing quickly was pounded into my head. I was able to do 150 drawings in three hours for animating purposes. I couldn't tell you if that is considered good or bad with toon making as I didn't continue too deeply with it.

AWARDS and SHOWS: Won awards for the Manchester's Craftman's Guild Show in 1989 and three Pre College scholarships for CMU(three shows)during high school. Most of my art here in this gallery has won awards thru ARTWANTED.

Winter/Spring 2005 "Visions Of Atlantis Show" ("Goin' With the Flow" piece).

I do the occassional paid commission and have done various works for companies and collectors of my weird art. I prefer not to use computer programs; instead, I do things by hand (save the scanning and wording put on my pictures). All you will typically see in my gallery will be done the old fashioned way. I hope you will enjoy your visit! Please feel free to leave a comment or two; I love reading them, whether they are good or bad...everyone is intitled to their opinion here on my gallery.

**If you are interested in some sort of proposal to offer for my work (designs, merchandise and so on), email me.

Those who have taken the time to leave me comments please don't be offended if I haven't got around to thanking you personally. I'm extremely busy as of late but each and every one of them mean much to me.
