Ballpoint pen Artists????

I posted this same question about a year ago when I started on here and just wanted to see if there was any new people out there that use ballpoint pen as a main medium.I have been using ballpoint for approx.10-12 years and started quite by accident(boredom and the need to doodle at work got me started).Anymore people out there....it is hard to decifer when looking at some artist's work as I run into people thinking I did it with pencil.The difference is I take probably twice as long getting the shading right and yu can not smudge it or erase it like pencil. Let me know ....Randy Nore

Jerry Stith is another ball point artist, he has been doing ball point drawings for a long long time.

Randy Nore 26 Apr 2008

He is the reason I found Artwanted and I have some of my drawings on his site at Ballpointpen.com as well. I found him quite by accident and needless to say I wouldn't have found this place without him.

No way is Stith as good as you Randy. Period.--Denny ;{

Cole McLester 26 Apr 2008

No, but he has a lot of expericence under his belt. The new generation should always be better than the previous one, otherwise we have not learned anything.

Randy Nore 26 Apr 2008

Thanx Denny but I still have alot to learn as I am my own teacher.I love doing ballpoint for that reason and the reaction that I get from people once they know it was done with a pen.I don't look at my art as being better than anyone else or I might turn into something I am not.

Cole, maybe that was the wrong thing for me to say. Sorry. He does have a lot of experience but caused a lot of trouble here on AW. He was not well liked. Probably why he is no longer here. Maybe he registered under an other name.

Again, my apologies.--Denny ;{

Denny,did not realize, that is some new info for me. I will keep that in mind, thank you.

Hi Randy have done any for a while but you have commented on two of mine in the past, hope you are well, fantastic detail you achieve, plus with ballpoint cant make a mistake (lol)

Randy Nore 28 Apr 2008

True Terry...I think it challenges me in ways that I never though drawing could.I used to rely on an eraser all the time but even erasing pencil lines you still get the indentatation which looks bad when you try to hide them. I am working on an eagle right now but it might be my last ballpoint adventure for a while.I am going to try to get back into the colored pencils for a change so I don't limit myself....wish me luck!!

love your work, and when you keep expanding it only gets better. Trying to do a bit changing up myself which is one of the reasons I am on these boards to help montivate myself though the accomplisments of others. Here is to a limitless supply of creativity.

Randy Nore 28 Apr 2008

True enough...got to see what others are doing as well.I find myself in awe when I see what some people are creating.

I do not mainly work with a ballpoint pen, but I have tried it, and I like it a lot, so I will probably continue with it, once I have a bit of time on my hands. This work is done with a ballpoint, a regular black Bic pen. (This is a xerox copy, though, and unfortunately I did not get a good enough photo of the original one before I sold it, but it looks very very close to the original )

There's a real purity in your work Randy, probably the strongest illustration work on here.

Not only do you create amazing illusion with surface and shadows, but there's a real sense of the anatomy beneath the surface.

I've tried using ballpoint but prefer the fluidity of paint, and the interesting accidents it allows.

Randy Nore 26 May 2008

Thanx for the comments Chris...I am quite humbled.I do have a lot of progress to make with ballpoint as I just got serious with it about 2 years ago.I am trying to get back into colored pencils and it is really trying as I haven't done it for 3 years.I am entering my first art show this weekend and have entered all ballpoint drawing so it should be interesting to see how others perceive it.Thanx again...Randy Nore P.S.....I love the drawing in ballpoint by I.T.,great work!!
