2008 - As with "Good Fortune/Orange," this painting was the result of the surrounding visual stimulous I experienced at the Los Angeles Chinatown New Year's Celebration in 2008. I choose red on this painting, the color that represents "good luck," or "good fortune." That is why you so often see the front door of a Chinese family home painted red. Having lived in Taiwan for a 15 months, and working in Singapore, I was able to absorb a great deal about the extroidinary history and culture of the Chinese people. Mastering the knowledge and skill of reading and writing Chinese, is however, something I gladly leave to those that grew up with it. Brush movement requires great dexterity... flowing, lifting to alter pressure, rolling, etc., it's quite an art in itself!
