Scarecrow Babysitter

©Seth Weaver,Sr. 05/01/09. I ran across this 3 year old pen & ink and marker sketch of mine that was inspired by the old song by Paul Robeson "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child." I just finished a work of that title soon to be loaded, when further perfected. I thought the slaves in the fields often had to take their young children with them while they worked if there was no one to watch them for them. Imagine a clever mother that told her young baby to stay with the Scarecrow, so Mother could work and occasionally glance over to check out the baby. The Scarecrow became a babysitter plus keeping the crows away. Original multi-tasking. A DigyMix™ creation.

wonderful work, with a minimal of lines and shading you got a real feel for the subject here.

Artist Reply: Thank you for your compliment Ruth. I was in a "Scarecrow" theme when I did this work.

All I got to say is that I am glad I get to stay home with my kids...

Artist Reply: It is very important to be with your kids as long as you can. Please see my daughter Vanessa's comment. It does make a difference. My wife was home when my kids were little and they've turned out well versus the daycare kids. Sometimes you have NO choice, my prayers are with them. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Renata!!!

Very nice work, Dad! This could be a social commentary for working parents today. I am dreading going back to work and leaving Gracie at home!

Artist Reply: Thank you so much Nessa for the comment. You can read a lot into this work as you cn see from the assorted comments. Some of my friends think it is beautiful, some think it is funny?

I feel that the subject matter of this piece has a lot undercurrent meaning, Seth! If so, it's a very funny pic!
