It was 1996, the show's title 'Winter Carnival Memories" an art observation by Richard Hubal. A collection of 24 works in clay relief. The St. Paul Winter Carnival has an incredible history (SINCE 1886) along with the mythology and commmunity participation. The Klondike Kates had performed during the time of carnival but the concept wasn't really accepted with carnival until sometime in the 70's. I decided on a photo from the time "most current" as reference. To my surprise, 3 of the 6 Kates came to the exhibit, and it really made the opening much more festive!
