Last week I posted photos from a snowshoe day at Crystal Mtn. Ski Resort taken in March of 2004. The following winter, Nov. of that year and into 2005, was the worst year ever for the resort. They didn't recieve enough snow to ski on until March and April of 2005. Then they skied until Memorial Day weekend. Now that was weird.... These photos were taken in Dec. 2004. We had our snowshoes just in case, but never took them out of the truck. This hike is called the Boullion Basin trail and makes a large 7 mi. loop up into the slopes and down. We haven't actually made the entire loop because of avalanche danger when we were there, but have explored the trail on either end. Here you can see the main resort nestled in the bottom of this huge bowl in the mountains. Not only did this resort and others in the state suffer that season, but the snow pack was only 2/3 of normal and we had to conserve water the summer of 2005. A few of the reservoirs went almost dry that year. That's not the case this year...lots and lots of snow and getting more.
