THE SANTE FE INDIAN MARKET

THE INDIAN MARKET AT SANTE FE, NEW MEXICO paintography by Michael Forbus NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER Oh, Great Spirit Whose voice I hear in the winds, And whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me, I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my Spirit may come to you without shame. (translated by Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887) published in Native American Prayers - by the Episcopal Church.

Beautiful prayer Michael, the painting is excellent, quite an unusual compositon, I just love the colours!!!!

Artist Reply: Kathie, what a kind thing to say. You are so gracious. The photograph was slightly mundane out of the ones I loved and so I play with the ones that don't have the pop I am looking for and print some others. You are getting quite the hand at the food work. I loved the fish dish. Excellent work and so fresh and beautiful. You will be an expert by the time the site is finished. I am loving seeing the progression in each image. Really quite good. Again it is amazing how much I made doing that work. Doing it at home and having it be stunning is the tri-fecta. You are really a natural with lighting and making the food look so appetizing and fresh. Two big hurdles. Great work to you. Thanks so much Kathie, for your support of my work. You are very generous. Michael

Artist Reply: My dear anonymous friend. I thank you for the most inspiring words you send. My gratitude to you in multitudes. You are so very kind. A proverb says, give the gift anonymously, pray in the closet. I think it means that you are giving purely of the heart and this you are doing. I love what you say about my work and am most grateful. You are so very kind and gracious. I hope you are blessed by your kindness. Michael
