Memory of a Cowboy

This is a portrait of my Dad who passed away this March one week shy of his 89th birthday. He was 70 yrs old in the reference photo I used for this piece. I had wanted to do a portrait of him for a long time and am so grateful this turned out as well as it did as it captures him how I remember him best.

So many people are doing pencil work these days it's fantastic.

Artist Reply: Thanks Graeme :-) I really enjoy working with just plain graphite pencils. It's amazing the effects you can get with such a simple tool.

I love this the detail is great and the portrait is full of emotion and charisma, the wrinkles in this gentlemans face tells a great story

Artist Reply: Thank you so much John. He truly was a grand gentleman in and lived a life full of a lot of adventure and laughter.

Nice Job. Should do more.

Artist Reply: Thanks Steve. I'm going to try to do some more real (aka non-fantasy) portraits. I was so happy that this one turned out really well as it means more to me than I can say.

great job on your dad. really nice. the expression, the clothes.

Artist Reply: Thank you Lisa. This piece has a very special place in my heart and will probably remain my favorite. My dad passed away on March 15th of this year, just one week shy of his 89th birthday. I had wanted to do a portrait of him for a long time. I believe he was 70 yrs. old in the reference photo I used for this.

Artist Reply: Leah ~ Thank you very much! This is actually my first real "people" portrait. Most of my work consists of animals and fantasy.
