A WALK TO MACHU PICCHU dedicated to PABLO NERUDA digital watercolor by Miguel Forbus Pablo Neruda Sonnet XVII (100 Love Sonnets, 1960) I don't love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz or arrow of carnations that propagate fire: I love you as certain dark things are loved, secretly, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that doesn't bloom and carries hidden within itself the light of those flowers, and thanks to your love, darkly in my body lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I don't know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

Just another reminder that the conquistadores have found immortality.

Artist Reply: Alexandra, the most sorry thing in the history of the Maya, is the decimation of their races and loss of their very rich culture due to the terrorist reign of the Catholic dictatorships worldwide. A shame what is done in the name of Christ and God. Having traveled and studied amongst many Indians of the Americas, and visited and lived around most of the large ruins, I am appalled at the ruination of such beautiful architecture with such finery. Then again the loveliness of the markets and the village familial lifestyle makes up for my disgust. They have persevered. And will forever. The People of the Sun have always had a lovely relationship with nature and nature preserves those that protect it. My thanks for commenting on my work. Michael

every time i visit your gallery, i am awed by the colorful works, full of hope and joy in life. This one caught my eye - the misty mountain/volcano beckons one in to it's dangerous space... the sleepy, ghosted city below in wait for life to spring out.. LOVELY - intriguing work! as always.
