Red House

This was a class assignment. It is a digital hand painting from a black and white photograph. I do not know who took the original photo, it was given to us in class to use. This was done with Artist Oils-Painter IX and a Wacom table...Buy this image as 5x7 GreetingCards. 8 Cards w/envelopes Free sentiments can be added. http://www.smkgraphicstudio.com/smk_greeting_cards.htm

the curtains - bright & billowy are what grab me here....and the possibility of peeking out the toppermost windows. or throwing them back to let the light in. Anita MW

Shadowing on the left looks great. but the angled roofline and the wall behind it kind of run together and don't really give much sense of depth. Perhaps more shading there somehow??

Artist Reply: hi wendy..i think i see what you mean. the roof shadow is faded into the wall and shows no depth/contrast. i will see if i cant deepen the shadow some. ..thanks for the honest feedback :)

Susan if you want a straight line and you're using a tablet, try putting a cork-backed ruler on the tablet and so on - when I've illustrated this sort of image, I've often put each line on its own layer and then merged layers to save memory and so on - This was a cool class assignment and your work is darn nice - wish more of my students would drag in work of this fine quality - looks like you're one of those who care - hope you're able to find work when you finish school - if you're young you certainly will! :)

Artist Reply: hi chas :) the ruler tip is a good one..never thought of that. cool. painter does have a tool for doing straight line but i was trying to do this all free hand style. i do own my own business..link is at the left..but i still like taking classes and learning new things. the classes are online, sorta like adult ed, no degree just learning. i use layers in a lot of things i do, but hardly ever in a painting. seems more realalistic if i dont. ..so what happens if im not young? lol..thanks for the comment :)
