Shadows On The Land

©Seth F. Weaver, Sr. 07/23/12. The War Between the States caused a young man to leave his humble roots on a farm in rural North Carolina. He left his dear father and mother after they had left their parents in Ireland. The war carried the world away changing everything. He survived horrendous battles and starvation with his parent’s prayers, to ride away from the war unscathed. New friends enticed him with dreams of wealth and romance to follow them out west. Still his parents prayed for his safe return home. Letters traveled many miles back and forth keeping both sides informed of good crops, bad crops, and lost fortunes. Only when a letter from his mother that told of his fathers failing health did he start riding home. Riding hard and fast trying to make up for lost time and in the process dropping dead in the saddle from exhaustion. He did make it home (his spirit did) to discover his two parents had been dead for several month(slow mail service). They are all together now just shadows on the land. An enhanced photo of a dilapidated old farm in eastern North Carolina that inspired my imagination to create this scene and story. A Compullage™ creation.

Seth, I love how you visualized the story!

Artist Reply: Thank you so much dear Anneke. I was afraid that this story was too long. I think my words better explain what you are seeing or what I want you to see.
