Lisa Klemmer
I was born early new years day 1972, in beautiful Kolding, Denmark. Since 1994 I have resided in equally beautiful Michigan, USA. My family, which consists of husband Rich, son Noah, daughter Sofia, dog Gwen, and cats Bambi and Ki Ki, have settled in Kalamazoo, and enjoy life here.
I have always had an interest in the creative side of life, but didn't become fully aware of it, until I completed an associate in graphic design. That led to employment in an ad agency, as well as freelance work. I enjoyed both tremendously. I have since moved on to full time motherhood, which has enabled me to explore other creative outlets. Creating abstract, acrylic paintings has me hooked.
Below is an Interview published on - October 2004.
Reaktiv Zone: Hello Lisa, could you introduce yourself in few words ?
Lisa: Lisa Klemmer, 32, born and raised in Kolding, Denmark, currently living in Kalamazoo, MI
Reaktiv Zone: How and when did you start painting ?
Lisa: Painting is very new to me... I got a little taste of it in college, but the kind of painting I do now, is within the past 2 years... It's been in my head as an idea for a little while longer... How I got started - basically spend a lot of money at the local art supply store - and went from there. I have no formal training or education in acrylics, so experimenting is the way for a self-taught person.
Reaktiv Zone: Why choosing to paint and not to sculpt for example ?
Lisa: Who knows... sculpting might be next? :-) There's really no good answer to your question. I can tell you what I like about painting. I like the mixing and creation of colors, I like the layering, I use molding paste to play on texture, I like the fact that I can at any given moment paint the whole thing over and start from scratch again
Reaktiv Zone: What inspires you ?
Lisa: Everything and anything. Thoughts, images, music, my children, colors, a new tool/brush... really, the list is never ending!
Reaktiv Zone: You seem to have a special interest towards shapes...how's that ?
Lisa: I do like shapes, a lot ( the square seems to be the current favorite)... It's so fundamental... and I like math, my brain seems to like working that way. I like patterns. I like simple. And this is great by the way... this site is one of the only places I could reveal why I like shapes, and anybody caring... Imagine me telling my husband:"Honey, I really like squares!" I doubt he would care... :-)
Reaktiv Zone: How do you feel when you compare your early works and the more recent ones ?
Lisa: I feel like my most recent works are also my early works, since it's so new to me... I see a growth on some level each time I create a new piece. In my past as a graphic designer, as a general rule, I preferred anything just created over past jobs... maybe that's just me?
Reaktiv Zone: What are your current exhibitions and what are your next projects ?
Lisa: Exhibitions? What's that? No, seriously I'm not there yet... I hope to be. ...

Lisa: Exhibitions? What's that? No, seriously I'm not there yet... I hope to be. I want to have a list of places to type in, but all in it's time.
Reaktiv Zone: As an artist, what are the difficulties you have to face ?
Lisa: For me, in this moment of life it's TIME.... I never have enough of that.
Reaktiv Zone: How do you lead a project to its reality ?
Lisa: It 's different from time to time... Sometimes I have a pretty clear picture in my head of what it's going to look like and how I'll get there, other times I'm driven by a color scheme or a particular mood... but most of the time, the final image is a surprise for me as well...
