The beauty of this Ruth Rumney painting embodies the skills she learned during her decade’s long career-the detail in the trees and their reflections, the pair of birds sweeping skyward, the use of white space to portray the mist closing in on the marsh in the early morning hours. My mother often said people see what they want to see in a work of art. Beholding this lovely print one could see themselves looking at the waters of a slow moving bayou, another could imagine it was once a small stream that has jumped its banks in the runoff from storms that had fallen on unseen high peaks and yet another might imagine this a beaver pond with the beaver lodge. just out of site. The immersive nature of Ruth’s art was often described as capturing a spiritual dimension of nature and this print underscores that in so many ways.
