okay... this picture began as an experiment (doesn't matter what about anymore)... and as it grew it turned into a Jesus picture that captivated me, and has done the same for a few hundred friends and others... i wasn't expecting it to be so moving... have sold numerous prints and people talk about this picture... none of this to say anything about my skills(!) but to say that the hand of the Lord himself did something with this one without me knowing it until after it was done...

the crown of thorns was the symbol of the rejection of Jesus as King, thus the title of this piece, taken from John 19:15, where the crowd declares "We have no king but Caesar" - communicating clearly their rejection of the one true King... but through this picture i envision the still compassionate pleading of his heart toward his people even as they rejected him...

about what in my life do i declare "I have no king but (fill in the blank)..."? when all the while his pleading eyes and his willing "yes" to the Father even in death speaks loudly to me, asking me to put his name in the blank... every time...
