..::Celtic Sunset::.. by sunshine carmine

Impulsive ideas can be fun. I got the idea in my head to do a water color painting.

Now, anyone that knows me knows that I have NNNNNNNEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR R claimed to be a painter of ANY KIND. I own various painting materials, but they intimidate me so much that I don't have the guts to use them.
This bothers me because I come from not only a family of artists, but a family of PAINTERS. You should see a painting that my mother did of the "Last Supper." The one word I use to describe it is INTIMIDATION.
I'm constantly begging painters to teach me how they do whatever-the-hell-it-is-that-they-do, and they look at me like I'm nuts.
"You don't teach painting, you just do it and learn," is what they tell me. Well stick a fork in me, I'm done!!!
I think that the best advice for this subject was given to me by my mother. She said, "Look at a painting as coloring a picture in Photoshop. Break things into seperate parts and use your layers to put it all together. It's putting together a puzzle."
My visual learning skills immediately went into work and I knew what she meant. It doesn't mean that I jumped right into painting, but at least I got a perspective on it that I could understand.

I guess this picture is sort of a step in a painting direction. At least I can say I tried, right?!?!

It's a sunset in Ireland, with two Celtic crosses. I thought about putting three crosses, but I didn't want the picture to become iconic, you know?

Paint myself in blue and red and black and gray
All of the beautiful colors are very very meaningful
Gray is my favorite color
I felt so symbolic yesterday
If I knew Picasso
I would buy myself a gray guitar and play"

~~Counting Crows, "Mr. Jones."

This character is Brock. Prone to depression, and loves music with all his heart. For him, music is an escape from the world around him. A salvation of sorts.
The premise for this picture is that he's walking down a street on a cold day, depressed as usual. When out of the corner of his eye, he catches a small glimpse of something. Something almost magical. He immediately goes into the store and purchases it. The gray guitar.
My luck, I'm listening to my Couting Crows CD when it hits me. The lyrics [the ones on the bottom of this picture] jumped out and smacked me on the face. I said that's it! THAT"S BROCK! So now this song has become his theme (well, parts of it anyway).
