Self taugt by observation, influence, and study of nature and humanity always overides academic education. I feel that artists are teaching themselves at all times. When you see another artist's work like say Howard Terpning pr Salvatore Dali and are inspired or excited then you can learn by trying to copy some of the details they have in their art. You will grow.

I think self taught is learning by any maeans in cluding listening to other artist's words about techniques and impressions they have learned also.

I am a self taught artist, and some of the greatest artists of all time were self taught!

I picked up a paint brush a few years ago. Because I was angry at the world. I had lost my mother to a undiscovered brain tumor. As the story goes I blamed everyone. I needed to express all my fears of emotions so I started drawing with a pencil and color crayons then a brush. Now I can't seem to get enough of life on paper or canvas. I do want to know more. Yes, the angry decrease and the understanding of life and death became clear. Art save my soul from hatered and pitty.
