I'm not sure if this could be counted as a contest, but the online journal Literary Laundry is looking for a "Feature Artist" to showcase in their sixth issue and offering a $100 prize along with an award. Here is their official call:

Call for Feature Artist: Literary Laundry is excited to announce its sixth call for submissions to appear as “Featured Artist.” We are offering a $100 award to the visual artist of our selection. Please e-mail Channing at [email protected] and provide the following: -A brief biography of the artist -An “abstract” of approximately 250-350 words to accompany the portfolio. The abstract should describe the artist’s inspirations and aspirations, style, and substance. The abstract presents an opportunity for the artist to explain the intricacies of his work to the Literary Laundry readership. It will be published in the journal on the “Featured Artist” page. -High resolution photographs of at least 8 works of art. All images should be submitted as JPEG files. Please indicate (either in the body of the e-mail or in the file name) the names of the works, the dates of composition, and the media of composition. All award winning work will be published in our bi-annual online journal. Submissions are due Feburary 15, 2012. There is no submission fee. The contests were to me an important part of the package I bought into when I joined - very VERY disappointed and feeling somewhat ripped off by AW decision to stop them. The same "suggestions" page has been there for years. Will there ever be a contest at all?

How about digital art with a theme for a change. For instance, a theme on a color group, something dripping, something see through, the tree, the rock, romantic, morning in fog. Then everyone would create the best digital art that best represents the theme. It's simple and could work for any type artist.

I would love to see updates! When I get on and search for contests, It would be nice to know what just closed, and when the next one is coming, and what gendre! there seems to be little consistancy here with any of these pages. One of the reasons i haven't had a "premium" membership i quite a while, is because it really doesn't offer much other than a better way to organize. I can buy Prints from my work elsewhere, proofread and get excellent quality for a better price and more control.So It would be nice to see Improvements. we work hard to get better at our craft, so should the website that wants our money!
