There is my fault after escapade with bear spray...brain didnt work...
I am now realy sick....what i have learned...
Just recently i made another trip through Zion National Park....Happen to talk to a Lady that localy live near Zion.....and what i have heard will create a lump in your throat as it did in mine...
I asked her about COUGARS in ZION also known as Mountain Lions and Puma....I asked cause i wanna photograph them and wanted to hear from her where if and when are they visible...
Her answer was that she is been here 15 years and she saw Mountain Lion on many occassions...she also gave me tips where to go...and i also might be lucky to see Bob Cats.....
We happen to chit chat further and she told me HUNTING MOUNTAIN LIONS is a great sport for people around here and it is open in season to hunt them for sport.....
My chin dropped ...i said say what?????????????????? and she says yes u can hunt Mountain lions for sport....Well i quietly ended conversation without saying how i realy felt....
Happen to meet someone else here and they confirmed that is true...
Now who is bigger predator now HUMANS or ANIMALS? I am sking myself to often that question and i am realy sad what i have learned...
I dont think Mountain Lion meat will be good to cook..and i am sure that is not case that they hunt mountain lions for food...
Sad to say the least...i am devastated and u know i have no desire to be in Zion again..but i know i will go ...i realy dont wish to hear those kind a stories...My primarely reason i am here is to photograph Mountain Lions
When they say human race were hanibals.... I beleive they still are...
What is that number for?
here is a wyoming story for you.. Wyo. Hunter Bags Deer, Then Hungry Lion A hunter in Wyoming killed a deer around dusk despite knowing he was too tired to load it up in the dark. He illegally left the deer carcass out in the woods and returned the next day to claim his trophy. He discovered a mountain lion had been feeding on the deer and was still in the area. The man contacted the Wyoming Game and Fish Department who - rather than scold him for breaking the law and baiting a lion - told him he could either scare the lion away or get a hunting tag and kill it. He chose the tag and now a mountain lion that posed no threat to people and fed on deer is dead. This story is yet another clear example of the anti-mountain lion bias among state agencies and the lazy, immoral hunters who are destroying the nation's wildlife
This is for YellowstoneFor example, aggressive predator control efforts wiped out all cougars in and around Yellowstone National Park by the 1920s, and - except for a few transients passing through - no cougars lived there for almost 50 years. But transients seem to be slowly recolonizing the 2.2 million-acre park; research biologist Kerry Murphy directs a field study of cougars in the region and estimates 14 to 17 resident mountain lions are now present. Radio collars have been attached to 9 females and 7 males, and the population produced 21 kittens in 1991. The region has abundant deer and elk, and the cougar population is increasing.(36)
So you can see amount that roughly would probably be around the Teton area.. and There is a quota of 12 a year cougars allowed to be hunted.. So if each year 12 successful hunting, well you can do the math..
I fully understand the dynanmics of culling of animals, ranchers, farmers, etc concerns. I just think there should be a more reasonable way of dealing with it.
I admire your patience to understand culinating....But i cant see eye to eye with it...
They need to culinate that outside National Park...What is inside National Parks should be Illegal for hunting...I dont know why i am so hard headed about it...but that is my pure inner feelings and i only see it that way....One track mind i guess...
However if there is just 2 doz of Cougars on such a large acreage land why would it be allowed to hunt Gougars? I could never understand that...and to make matter worst its for sport...My Lord....
Or Does anyone eat Cougar meat? for survival?
Please make me understand...I wish i could understand...But this head is so hard that doesnt seem to me will go through....
Also i dont get it....I thought Cougars are on Endangered Species List....no matter what when they are on the list u cant kill it...How can one obtain tag to kill then?
Such a corrupt nation...We have Civil Liberty to protect humans...then where is Animal Liberty to protect these innocent mamals that can not defend themselves...Makes me cry this whole idea...
Thank u Gary for that information ...now even more nothing will change my mind...
I don't think they should ever be allowed to hunt inside the parks..
and thinking about it.. I don't ever remember hearing people offering cougar as a menu item.. so why are they hunting them like that... Hmmm
but I never understood the rationale of them increasing the limit from 11 to 12 a couple years ago.. if you only have very low % of cougars, why would you decide to increase the yearly quota... I would think that even from a hunter's view point it does not make sense when one does the math of that..
I just don't understand this whole erradication mentality.. instead of trying to live in a synergy level with nature as it was intended.. of course this is the same mind set the early europeans had when they immrigrated over here in respect to the indegenious Indians..
They actualy allow hunting in Grand Tetons National Park...that is why i have pettition to sign but its slow with signatures...
I talked to Thom Mengelson about that...But i think he is just trying to be neutral cause he doesnt wanna bad image to reflect on his business localy....
Hunters can obtain licences that my friend sells and when elk hunting season is on They can hunt inside National Park..Only National Park in USA that allows hunting inside the Grand Tertons and its is 100 years old law...
Yellowstone on contrary doesnt allow hunting inside National Park...
My fight is my petition i started to be sign and try to knock that off....Diane who is localy in Tetons tried that years ago and dint succeed so she lay low now...
I am not affraid to fight it...but i need far more signature then what i was able to get....
http://thepetitionsite.com/2/save-innocent-animals-at-grand-tetons-national-park.html%22%3E
Rockefeller bought a lot of the land and donated it to Tetons and nobody wanted it at first.. this I got from that new Burns park series..
U are right Gary,
However i wanna change that...My goal is to get 10,000 signatures and present that to the Senators in White House....No matter who is President...I just cant seem to get it moved fast enough.....There is so many people on Facebook but no one cares...
Everybody goes by their business...they dont care what next generation is going to have after they are gone...People seem to be to themselves to much....
I care and like to change that law...No matter what has been signed many law's changed and this one can be too if we all get together and pull together and change it...
I spoke to a woman who is chairwoman of headquaters at Tetons...she is been there 20 years or so...She sure didnt like my idea...ofocurse not...Jackson Hole makes money during hunting seasons....And if hunting is stopped inside the park Jackson Hole loses revenue...
My good friend is against my idea as well..cause she caters to Hunters...Everything is seen through $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and no one cares if Nikon will sells cameras to wildlife photographers as there will be no animals to photograph if we going with this paste as we are now...
Go to pettiton site and scroll down....Sometime in September DANIAL MUSCATERI signed my petition he is big Buddy of Thom Mengelson...and he is local and see what he says:
Nice long write up and how he feels as local resident of Jackson Hole...Cant post it here wont let me...cause it says profanity...There is no profanity in his post but u get the idea...grrrr
