Original Post: Take Back The Night in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month of April ...Every month should be

Take back the night

she was stolen from herself

turned into someone else

she doesn't know this person

she is carrying a burden

of remaining silent

she is slowly dying

insides crying out for help

this anonymous person took her

breath away

now she lays down to go to

sleep at night

she is alive

but she can't awake

she wants to awake

into the day

But all she can see is dark and gray

clouds in the way of her sunshine

has faded away

nightmares and flashbacks

she doesn't trust anyone

this anonymous person could be anyone

she can't breathe

searching for the woman that once was

she can't escape

this living hell

if she yells for help

will anyone hear?

no one can hear her

trapped inside an invisible cell

reality to her is a jail

can't be free

wanting to walk down the street to be free

to get back to a place of protection

but there is no protection

she's missing affection

because trust is gone

and she's grown cold

not wanting to hold anyone

wanting to be left alone

so she spends her nights at home

take back the night

she was stolen from herself

turned into someone else

she doesn't know this person

she is carrying a burden

of remaining silent

she is slowly dying

insides crying out for help

this anonymous person took her breath away

she can't take back the night

but she can take back her life

and will she ever breathe again?
