Gregor Mendel (2010)

Gregor Mendel was an Austrian monk who established the the principles of inherited characteristics. By studying flowers in the monastery garden, he hypothesized about the existence of genes and is thus the father of genetics. He worked in obscurity and published his findings, which remained unrecognized for many years.
