CALIFORNIA GATOR

The challenge was to place a New Orleans active Alligator sunbathing on a sunny Southern Cali beach..... This design is an example of full color drawn Arternatives airbrush illustration. The entire process is something I enjoy the most. Sometimes it can be quite time consuming. It takes research and digital photo taking at the zoo, National Geographic, library book, online image bounty hunting, etc... but the outcome is always worth it. I thought the idea was interesting and began the studying and collection of needed data, artifacts and photos, sketching out the various logo possibilities in ink pen, gator angles and noted color hue samples.. AJ did the basic acrylic foundation painting over the outlines from my initial paint strokes. Janos took the concepts and outlined the logo. Once, the underlay was completed, I took an actual alligator head from a menagerie and completely studied the images. Counting the teeth, closely observing the anatomical gaps & contours, eye sockets, tail and scale patterns.. I then repainted the entire piece. The final steps of airbrushed lighting effects and detail brushing were quite tedious, but are extremely necessary to convey the original intent and objective....... New Orleans Cafe has cordially invited us all to eat... Chef prepared spicy Cajun / Creole alligator meat over rice... for the kids they have delicious hot, plump Reptile Nuggets. YUM! LOL, Can You believe this?........ My daughter Paloma says; "UUUh, dad? I DON'T, think so."
