Cinco De Mayo 2007

(c)2007 This was intended for Cinco De Mayo,...it was finished in time but I misplaced it until now. I did a lot of reading to discover the true meaning for the celebration of the 5th of May. A small but significant battle between elite French forces badly used against Mexican and Indian forces at the battle of Puebla. The victory by Mexico that day led to the eventual retreat of the French from the country of Mexico. It was the first victory of a Central American country over imperial nation's. And, important to the U.S. because had the French controlled Mexico, they would have used it to supply the Confederate States and perhaps leading to a permanently divided United States. But with the French defeat at Puebla and the Confederate defeat at Gettysburg,...the United States won the Civil War and was able to send supplies to Mexico to help finally route the French once and for all. So,...Viva de Cinco de Mayo! :O)
