The Mazda MX-5 was introduced in 1989 as a 1990 model. With a base price of $13,800 it filled the hole for an affordable sports car roadster that had been left when the MGB went out of production. Its styling was reminiscent of a mid 60's Lotus Elan. With 116 horsepower the 2,116 pound car wasn't particularly fast but it wasn't slow either and with outstanding handling and clean lines it became a huge success.
