DOWNSET - album cover design

CASE ANALYSIS: I was given this assignment with a pending deadline to design an entire album cover and CD jacket incorporating multiple elements from the most impactful songs and theory's of this Los Angeles band called "Downset". Instead of just delving into the music and lyrical structure, I interviewed the lead author and performer. Carefully breaking down the essence of the intended delivered messages and directives, I immediately went on a mission to acquire notable, recognizable and subtle imagery from all kinds of sources, including dated books, magazines, photographs, even hypothetical maps and chronicled unaccepted scientific illustrations. "Pangeah" the mono-continent had no set foundational final perameters, So I merged about 7 different maps into one and completely hand painted the continental merged landmass, leaving out certain portions in order for the viewer to be able to somehow distinguish and differentiate it's contents. I then merged this with water and cloud formation airbrushing to form an ancient globe which served as the cornea of this females eye. Images of The Dead Sea scrolls, Chinese structures, Los Angeles gang symbols, quantum physics, and man powered flying (jumping) contraptions, etc. were metamorphasized into a final rendering which still went through various stages of development before completion and final approval. the inset band photo was merged with a completely constructed wall, graffiti script, pipes, and fictitious New York tower reconstruction which I airbrushed and merged in the computer. (They were originally standing in front of a garage!) The final design was accepted and printed into targetted covers, marketting ads, as well as signs and performance backgrounds.
