a pencil drawing

graphite drawing using some technical pencils. It was a gift to one of my close Art School buddies, Frank Ordaz, who has become a world class artist of tremendous repute. He did his time with Lucas film on movies like Star Wars and Star Trek, many more. Frank if you are out there, you are one gifted guy. Merrilee says hello.

Brilliant work, John - such gleaming body work, and it must have taken you ages to do that grass!

Artist Reply: no. not really. I came to a solution that became somewhat redundant, but worked well for achieving grass at the time.

Excellent pencil work

Artist Reply: Thank you Renata. Your "Lady of the Woods" is a very beautiful piece of work. I encourage anyone reading this to please do your eyes a favour and visit Mrs. Cavanaugh's beautiful portfolio featured here at Artwanted.

Wonderful drawing... looks so "antique"!

This is GREAT. I so like the monochromatic choice, the grass is very effective a "how to" on that would be a treat. Masking fluid??? Super Job!!!

Artist Reply: its been over 25 years since I did this little drawing, however, I do remember that no special masking fluid was available at that time nor did I use anything like that. Drawing very lightly the direction and movement of each grass leaf, I drew the negative shape around it so that the grass stood out. Yes...it took a long time!

the car and reflections are great but those grasses must have killed you drawing all the little spaces
