Walking Tall

Great Blue Herons, like this one, prowl the edge of the marsh all around Hatteras Island, looking for unsuspecting minnows. This particular bird has spent many afternoons right across the Slash Creek from our house, walking back & forth across the seaweed-covered ridge, hunting for its next meal. Taken May 2005.
