Emily and her Arabian

Another oldie but one that is also very dear to my heart so I wanted to share it with you.

This one was a last minute Christmas commission from a girl I worked with. Christmas was only about a week away when I accepted it also knowing I would have one full day in my studio to complete it and get it to her. In my race for time I started to really struggle with Emily's face because of the angle and a lot of it being covered by her hair. I couldn't get her glasses right and now I'd erased so much that I was starting to damage the paper. I didn't have time for this!!

At that point I stopped what I was doing and as we all tend to do when we run out of human options I turned to God for help. I went in my bedroom, "fessed up" as some of my Christian friends call it which just makes for a great time of prayer cuz you don't have anything nagging at you.. and spent some time with the Lord. At the end I humbly asked for some assistance on my portrait. (Ahem... reminding Him who gave me the gift and all...LOL)

When I went back to work on this piece it was if God himself was giving me a drawing lesson. He said, "When I created Emily she did not have glasses on. Finish her face without the glasses and see how beautiful I made her." As I began working I was absolutely overcome with feelings of love. Love for Emily and it was clear to me how much He loved her. I never erased once and after finishing her face I added the glasses, and thanked the Lord for His perfect help.

It was one of the most amazing experiences I'd ever had. Sometimes when I'm feeling a little disconnected I go back and look at this one to remind me of a better time.
