It's one thing to be wishful and it's another to do something about it. Trouble is, sometimes you do something and it doesn't happen. Then you try again, and still no soap. So you do what I do, draw that feeling into being and hope that it will take on a life of its own and make that wish a reality. But even then you know that dream is still nothing but a dream unfulfilled. But you can at least say you gave it your best shot and then some. This is a 6 by 4.5 inches gel pen, charcoal pencil and just a bit of color pencil drawing on toned paper. It's a wishful, still hopeful example of Original Jones Art as he begins to understand the meaning of the word futility in northwest Austin, Texas.

Like the effect of the charcoal pencil on toned paper . Wishful gaze indeed . Super work, Charles : )

Artist Reply: Yes, I kind of having fun with trying to do more with minimal color. In my youth I'd just do random sketches in lined notebooks, text books, on just about any old surface that took ink. Those were mostly just simple pen drawings using the ubiquitous Bic. I don't understand why anyone nowadays would use regular ballpoint ink as it is a dyed solution and fades. Gel uses pigment and is pretty lightfast. So when I got back into drawing, I began using materials that would last. :)
