FAMILY HOME

I continue my series of paintings based on photos I inherited from my Mother. This one is of our family home which was bought by my grandmother in 1945. A quiet community, Eastland Gardens in Washington, D.C., is where I spent my childhood among four generations of family members who lived well without distractions from outsiders. I called it "Lilliputia". What a blessing! 4X6 inches. The painting is also a continuation of my exploration of Japanese Nihonga techniques with powdered minerals, and nikawa glue binding on canvas (still working at paper successes). The minerals used are white bronze, and brass. The blacks are carbon ink. More to come from my "Afro-Asian" explorations!
