In the time that we, in our region, still lived in sod huts or rudimentary wooden structures, architecturally beautiful buildings were already being built in Greece. Especially in the cities (called polis) people already lived in real apartments, built in sand or brick with colonnades and decorative moldings and cobbled streets with sewerage. This area was only affordable for the wealthy citizens who could afford slaves to keep their apartment tidy, because the Greek aristocracy, at that time, was not eager to work. On the outskirts of the towns where the less fortunate lived, there was no paving, no sewerage, the waste was just dumped on the street, in other words they were slums where must have smelled terrible. I have always found it fascinating how people lived in ancient times, especially with regard to ancient Greece. Documentation is abundant on the internet, although you sometimes have to take it with a grain of salt. For example, there are cinematographic simulations of society and the cities that, in my opinion, rather belong in a Disney production. Still, I found an unpretentious black and white document that appealed to me, although the perspective was a bit wrong. Therefore, here, my own interpretation in color. Image size: 260 x 360 mm
