Grackle dives for sand fleas

A common Grackle digs for a sand crab on the beach in New Smyrna Beach to eat a tasty treat at lunch time. Crackles are related to the Crows and are very common and plentiful in Central Florida. They are scavengers and will eat almost anything and follow man around most places including the beach. Here they have learned to dig for sand fleas just like the fishers who use them for bait.
