An expert at navigating Central Asia's high mountains, the iconic snow leopard is recognizable by its long tail and almost-white coat, spotted with large black rosettes. There are as few as 4000 snow leopards in the wild, and their numbers are declining due to habitat loss, poaching and the impact of climate change (wwf.panda.org).
