Man does have a tendency of wreaking havoc on his natural surroundings and all that inhabit it, Erik. But we have a funny generic answer to this. For some reason it's called progress. It's inadequate and sometime untrue, but it's conjured up again and again, generation after generation. Now knowing your latitude and longitude, could those be dunes behind your subject? :)
