This time of year, it is not uncommon to see snakes crawling slowly or sunning on dirt and rock roads at the refuge. Timber rattlesnakes are a protected species in Texas.

YIKES, BRENDA. GREAT PHOTOS. IT LOOKS HUNGRY; IT IS SO FLAT. LOOKS LIKE THE ONE WHO CROSSED MY PATH WHILE i WAS BIKING IN A CUL DE SAC ON MY WAY OUT. THANKFULLY A MAN IN A PICK UP TRUCK CAME ALONG AND RESCUED ME.
