Having come from the east I find the chief challenge in painting this work of nature to be the huge scale: the canyon is a mile deep, many miles across and 200 miles long. This is the third of what I intend to be a series of many paintings of the Grand Canyon, and I want them all to convey a sense of this immensity. Even in still air, the canyon sees to whisper secrets.
