The

In English: the Half Moon. A small (21 m) vessel with a great reputation. In 1604, the English, captain Hudson sailed out in order of the V.O.C (United East-Indian Company) who, in those days, claimed the commerce between South-Africa and Australia. The purpose was finding an alternative way along the north-west passage to reach India. An order of his search operation, the captain sailed up a river he tought it was a passage and discovered that way a watercourse who later acquired his name : the Hudson. The first replica of this ship was build in 1909 and nearly touched the water but was showed on an exhibition area in a park and finaly burned down by local vandals. A second replica was build in 1989 and sailed till recently, as a tourist attraction, on the Hudson. Now the vessel is transfered to the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands. Image size: 260 x 360 mm
