I used color gel pens exclusively on this piece--as was my want a decade plus ago. :) This is a small piece measuring 2 by 3 inches. Original Jones Art in Austin, Texas.

that is awesome charles that a a powerful and streng picture haxe you every done landscapes

Artist Reply: This was done quite a few moons ago with a set of gel pens, Ray. They were gifted me, as I recall. I've tried to get the same quality pens several times since to no avail. And regarding landscapes, much of my work has a mountain range and a cloud, so technically almost all of my work qualifies as such. Just not your traditional sort. Thanks for commenting! :)

Yes Charles, you are right, Art must be a "honest expression" of our world .

I often look at this painting Charles , when I have the painful feeling that I lost my creativity. However, when I see your eye even so far, I know that it will come again into my world. Thank you for this painting.

Artist Reply: It's not often that I receive two comments by the same person on one of my pieces, Daniela. Even rarer---like looking for hen's teeth---is that second comment coming from an expressionist of your stature. I consider myself an expressionist since I see no other alleged art movement/genre that I 'fit.' Art SHOULD be about personal expression, individual expression, truthful/honest expression with no thought of sales or impressing the art-speak folks. I might be a little too successful in this goal but I can't see myself shifting gears at this late date. :)

A very interesting portrait Charles ! Please, tell me if in America expressionism is seen as an ugly style and if you can sell your painting. In my country, Romania, expressionism is seen as a curious style and people do not buy paintings belonging to this style but only beautiful painting; therefore, I sell very few paintings. However, I will never give up to this style, because it is a part of my soul.

Artist Reply: Well, I'm not exactly a hot commodity in the current art market, Daniela. :) I sell a few things a year for not a lot of money and, if I'm lucky, I pay for most of my supplies. As the old clich'e goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." If you are a surface viewer/thinker, than you like generic art that is on the pretty side of things. I think this explains why most humans still value 'pretty' people more highly than ugly people. Mistaking the surface for substance makes me believe that humans aren't nearly as intelligent as they think they are. :)

I feel as depressed as this person looks, great capture of emotions which are so prevalent today.
