One thing I really like about the Mission Trail in San Antonio (Texas) was the concept that these missions as we see them today bear little resemblance to their heyday back in the 1700s. They are now surrounded by neighborhoods and in the case of San Jose, businesses. Nah, back-in-the-day their land holdings were vast. Some of the larger missions had farmlands that ran nearly to the Texas Coast and that’s a long way. So, while at Concepcion I was taken by the depth of historical significance in the place. The old walls held in them the memory of life, death, suffering and joy! How can one hold that as an active memory with a dull old snap-shot? Can’t be done! The memory needs a jog! That’s why I shoot some of me pix the way I do. That’s why the aura around objects. I’m not just capturing a snap – who needs that! I’m exploring the spirit of the place. I’m recording it’s life. Shot from a low angle using wide-angle lens and then the same darkroom magic I used to work using the alchemy of photography’s by-gone days – but all inside me Mac. Shooting the photos in RAW format gives me the latitude to create a better pix. My heavy hand in Photoshop gives me all the tools of before and then some that push that envelope just a bit more. Give Me More as Oliver said in the timeless classic. Let’s hope you feel a bit of what I felt at Concepcion ~:0) VivaChas!
