The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is the smallest of the pelican species. The bird on the left is between one and two years old. He has reached his full size but does not have the adult colors. The bird on the right is a breeding adult. Besides the difference in feather colors, notice the eyes. ©Delores Knowles 2009
