Föhn over Mt.Teysachaux

Soft Pastel on grey Cansons Ingres, paper, 29.7 x 42 cm. A favourite mountain of mine, Mt Teysachoux (the dark peak in middle ground) is a hairy ridge scramble. Behind, the French Savoyan mountains just peak above the "Nebelfeld" or fog layer, covering Lake Geneva. The Föhn is a warm southerly wind that boosts temperatures and can cause violent winds but always provides good views even if, in this case, hazy. Painted on site, dated 2008 and signed LRC.

I love the way the foreground mountains really stand away from the distant background, and the subtle use of many different colours to give interest and life to the painting.
