PEIXEIRAS - Journalism

© 2008 Armando Salas and Editorial La Capital.----- News about our successful creative experience published today by newspaper Diario de Ferrol on the last page.---The larger file is available for download in my Private gallery. Congratulations and thank you to all participants.---P.S.- Our dear friend Minerva Bloom will translate it into English as soon as possible (she is dealing right now with hurricane; take care, girl)----------------------------JUST got the translation from Minerva: ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- DIARIO DE FERROL, Tuesday August 19, 2008. Under the Picture Caption it reads: This is the finished painting by Salas. Below, the sketch, point of reference for the rest of the participants. The Secondary Headline reads: ART- The illustrator-cartoonist Armando Salas sets forth in a website specialized in art a “creative experience” with much success. The Main Headline reads: The “peixeiras” seen as far as Azerbaijan. Nobody doubts the internet has become the world’s most frequented medium of communication. It’s popularity has allowed millions of human beings separated by thousands of miles, the opportunity to establish relationships that otherwise would be less than unthinkable if this instrument didn’t exist. Those relationships can –and this is one of the characteristics of this tool– join in interaction, making it possible to create such initiatives like the one led by the ortegano artist Armando Salas. Salas’ proposal was defined as “a creative experience” by Minerva Bloom from the USA in her video introduction posted at youtube.com. And it is that, indeed, there are precedents, although few, which are called “desafío”, or challenge. Armando’s has to do with posting at the website where he exhibits part of his work –artwanted.com– a sketch in pencil of the “peixeiras” thus launching an idea: to create an artwork with that sketch as reference, but with complete freedom of choosing the medium, method, color, style, etc. This initiative arose just a few days ago and up to this point –there are no deadlines of any kind– twenty four members of Artwanted took the challenge and half of them already “delivered” their works. There’s a bit from everywhere in the origin of the participants, for it could not be any other way, although with a local majority –since Artwanted is “located” in Salt Lake City– in either case all relating with art. The Italian Cristina Marsi, the Welsh Roy Boobyer, Lior Goldenberg -Israel-, the Azerbaijanis Nikolay and Izabella Pavlushko; Anneke Hut -Holland- Pamela Davidson -Canada-, Terry Basset -UK-, Minerva Bloom, Olga Van Dijk, Marylin Brown and Sharon Gonzalez -USA- have all finished, together with Armando Salas. The rest of the participants are working on it. "It surpassed my expectations", commented the promoter, “I thought 3 maybe 4 curious ones would be signing up”. He was wrong: his initiative is breaking records in views –about 8,000– and comments –more than 400–. Art, it seems, takes hold again of Artwanted. -------------------------------------- This translation will be available soon at amazon.com :-)

Artist Reply: Thank you very much, Katerina. This "friend" newspaper (I publish my daily strips there) "lifts" my name but the wonderful team of participants are the real winners. I'm specially happy because looks like this collective experience re-launched inspiration.
